Large number of hacks on Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent October 19, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The number of people and companies that are hacked in Curaçao is high. This is according to Elgeline Martis, head of the National Cyber Emergency Response Team of the Caribbean (Caricert) of Bureau Telecommunication and Post (BT&P).

Martis indicated that he cannot say yet if the situation is alarming, but says more research is needed. The number of hacks is increasing worldwide and Curaçao is no exception. Many companies are not yet aware of this, according to BT&P. Martis explains that there are different forms of hacks. Strange things can happen on a victim's screen, but it could also be that documents are seen or malware is transferred when files are downloaded.

Many people would not update their devices. According to Martis, this is extremely important to do. In this way, the phone or computer's system cleans itself and removes potentially threatening files.
