Koraal Specht Celebrates Opening of New Sports Field

WILLEMSTAD – The neighborhood of Koraal Specht was in a festive mood this past Wednesday afternoon during the official opening of a brand-new sports field. The project, aimed at promoting youth development and community engagement, was largely funded by 2BAYS Curaçao.

Minister of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning, Charles Cooper, attended the opening ceremony. As a native of Koraal Specht, he expressed his pride in being able to give back to his community. “I’m happy to have contributed to the fact that Koraal Specht now has its own renovated grass field,” he said.

The new field, located at Union Deportivo Koraal Specht, will primarily be used for football matches and training sessions, but it is also open for local children to enjoy recreational play.

Adding a touch of humor to his speech, Minister Cooper recalled how, in the past, anyone who fell on the old field would “lose a patch of skin” due to its poor condition. “That’s how bad it was,” he joked. Now, the community enjoys a smooth, well-maintained grass pitch.

Cooper also praised Mitchel Fonseca, chairman of Union Deportivo Koraal Specht, for his tireless work mentoring and guiding young people in the neighborhood. He commended Fonseca’s efforts to keep the youth on the right path through sports and community support.
