WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s highly anticipated annual football tournament, Kopa Kòrsou, kicks off this Friday with a record 29 teams—including 25 men’s teams and 4 women’s teams, according to the Curaçao Football Federation (FFK). The official draw took place Tuesday evening.
Opening matches will be played at Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca Stadium and Dr. Antoine Maduro Stadium, starting at 7:00 PM. Games will also take place at Soto Arena and Ergilio Hato Stadium, with all four venues hosting matches throughout the tournament.
The men’s competition has been divided into six groups: five groups of four teams and one group of five. Each team will play up to six matches in a double round-robin format. The top sixteen teams will advance to the knockout stage. The women’s tournament will follow the same format.
In a gesture to the community, the first round of matches will be free for the entire public, the FFK announced in a press release.
The final is scheduled for July 2, on Curaçao’s Flag Day, and the FFK promises a true celebration of football, with matches played on both weekends and weekdays. All clubs and fans are warmly invited to attend and support their teams throughout the tournament.
