Koninklijke Horeca Nederland on track with Curaçao department

Local | By Correspondent April 19, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The Dutch trade association Koninklijke Horeca Nederland (KHN) has established a department in Curaçao since the beginning of 2021. The primary goal of this department is to provide expertise and support to local hospitality entrepreneurs. KHN-Curaçao is working towards creating an optimal business environment for the hospitality sector and promoting its professionalization.

The department is in close collaboration with the local government, serving as a discussion partner on matters concerning the hospitality industry. One such issue currently being deliberated is a proposed bill for biodegradable products in the catering sector, with a focus on reducing single-use plastic waste. While entrepreneurs are willing to comply, they are also aware of the consequential costs of using other packaging materials. KHN-Curaçao believes that this is a concern that extends beyond the hospitality industry and should be addressed by the entire island.

In March, KHN-Curaçao, represented by Chairman Tarzeno Cirkens, participated in a plenary consultation on tourist robberies. The meeting was attended by various stakeholders, including the Curaçao Police Force, resulting in the formulation of action points such as increasing police presence and installing cameras in tourist hotspots. KPC and CTB will be working together to develop an action plan that can be funded through the private sector.
