WILLEMSTAD – The director of the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), Maarten van Aalst, has paid an introductory visit to the Meteorological Service Curaçao (Meteo). The visit focused on enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise in weather monitoring, aviation and maritime services, and public information.
During the working visit, Van Aalst was briefed on Meteo’s operational policies and its role in international cooperation through the World Meteorological Organization. He also toured the weather operations room, where he was given an overview of monitoring activities and customer interaction.
According to Meteo, Van Aalst expressed appreciation for the high quality of the systems in Curaçao and emphasized KNMI’s willingness to strengthen ties and share knowledge.
As a token of recognition, he was presented with the recently published report on the impact of climate change on Curaçao. Both KNMI and Meteo agreed to further intensify and expand their collaboration in the coming years.
