SCHIPHOL - KLM will start a trial this month to make WiFi available on intercontinental flights. KLM is the only one of the four largest airlines at Schiphol that offers internet.
Tui Fly, EasyJet and Transavia do not yet do this. KLM's test should clarify whether it is possible to offer a stable, good internet connection during an intercontinental flight. In addition to the technical side of this test, KLM also wants to use this test to find out to what extent customers are willing to pay for this service. KLM currently only offers Wi-Fi in certain Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 aircraft.
Airlines have been looking for options to make Wi-Fi available on board aircraft for years. It is difficult to continuously maintain a good connection at an altitude of 10 kilometers when flying at 900 kilometers per hour. Various solutions have now been found, including placing a Starlink satellite receiver in the aircraft.
