Kitten Rescue Curaçao announces independent chip registration database for the ABC islands

Local | By Press release December 5, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Last week, chippen-caribbean.com was launched. Chippen-caribbean.com is the independent chip registration database for Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao where pet owners, veterinarians, foundations, and other organizations can register and read chip numbers of dogs, cats, and other animals. If a lost animal with a registered chip is found on the street, the owner can be easily traced through chippen-caribbean.com.

Accessing this database is (and will remain) free. The registration of pets by owners is also free for up to ten animals per household. The registration of chips by veterinarians, foundations, and other organizations is free for the first introductory year. Afterward, a fee of 80 USD per year will be charged for an unlimited number of registrations.

Chippen-caribbean.com was initiated by Stichting Kitten Rescue Curaçao in collaboration with the Dutch provider 0318BV, which brings more than 25 years of experience in pet identification. The Chippen-caribbean.com database has been set up by them according to the security requirements of the Dutch Government and privacy legislation, ensuring that personal data is guaranteed to be safe and will never be made available to third parties and/or government institutions.

"It was time for an independent and professional solution for the registration of animals on Curaçao and the other islands," says Marcel Bleeker, spokesperson for the foundation. "As a foundation, we took this initiative because it is no longer possible to decide the fate of registered animals without consulting the owner first. It will also be easier in the future to find the owner of a found animal that is lost or injured. As an owner, you can now arrange this by having your pet chipped and registered at chippen-caribbean.com."

With the introduction of chippen-caribbean.com, the old method of registration at 'Els Angels' is being phased out. The registrations from 'Els Angels' for the years 2022 and 2023 have been taken over by chippen-caribbean.com and can already be accessed. Owners who registered their chip in 2022 with 'Els Angels' need to re-register the chip with chippen-caribbean.com. Owners who no longer have this information for their animal from before 2022 can request it for up to six months via chipregistratie@gmail.com.

The launch is taking place this week on Curaçao, followed by Bonaire and Aruba.
