WILLEMSTAD - Despite Jason Fullinck’s withdrawal as the candidate for Minister of Social Development, Labor, and Welfare (SOAW) on behalf of KEM, the political party has confirmed its continued support for the Pisas government. KEM Member of Parliament Anthony Godett made this announcement today.
The party is set to hold a meeting this Sunday to discuss its future plans, but Godett emphasized that their backing for the government remains unchanged.
Fullinck, who had been nominated by KEM for the ministerial role, withdrew his candidacy earlier this week. He cited the extensive and disproportionate nature of the screening process as his reason, adding that he feared potential backlash against his family if he were to assume the position. KEM has expressed respect for Fullinck’s decision.
Coalition Support
The government, originally formed by the MFK and PNP parties, lost its majority on August 21. To maintain control until the elections scheduled for March, the largest party, MFK, which holds nine seats, secured the support of independent MP Zita Jesus-Leito and partido KEM, both holding one seat each. Together, the coalition now has a slim majority of 11 in the 21-member parliament.
