WILLEMSTAD - Leader of political party KEM Michelangelo 'Lo' Martines strongly criticizes the business travels of the Members of Parliament. Martines makes this known via social media.
“Any trip to a Parlatino meeting is a robbery of our own people,” the KEM leader writes. According to Martines, Curaçao is in a serious financial crisis, with poverty spreading further and further. The politician wants a stop to the costs of travel. He also wants the parliamentarians to explain the added value of the Parlatino meetings to the people.
Martines himself attended a Parlatino meeting for the first time and describes this as 'theft from the people or rather: 100 percent a candy trip'. He therefore says that he will refund the money when he returns and submit a motion to cancel all Parlatino meetings.
Martines also finds it outrageous that MPs do not pay taxes on the money they receive for business trips. He asks Finance Minister Javier Silvania to introduce this as soon as possible.
