WILLEMSTAD - The political parties KEM and UKPK are exploring a potential alliance for the upcoming elections on March 21, 2025. The collaboration could provide mutual benefits as both parties face unique challenges in their paths to election success.
The proposal for a joint effort arises amid legal troubles faced by KEM leader Michelangelo Martines, who is currently in custody on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering. Additionally, KEM candidate Jason Fullinck has withdrawn his candidacy, leaving the party with internal leadership issues.
Joint List with Sintjacoba as Leader
The formation of a combined electoral list with Raichel Sintjacoba of UKPK as the frontrunner is being considered as a strategic solution. For KEM, this would resolve its internal leadership concerns. For UKPK, the partnership would provide an opportunity for direct electoral participation through KEM’s existing seat.
In the 2021 elections, UKPK garnered nearly 4,000 votes, falling short of securing a seat. However, Sintjacoba’s strong performance demonstrated his political potential. He received 3,260 personal votes, outpacing many well-known political figures in Curaçao.
