THE HAGUE – Curaçao’s Minister of Justice, Shalten Hato, together with Minister Plenipotentiary Carls Manuel and their delegation, paid an official working visit to the Embassy of Colombia in The Hague. There, they met with Ambassador Carolina Olarte Bácares to discuss critical topics aimed at strengthening the collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the areas of justice and security.

During the meeting, both parties addressed key issues such as the fight against human trafficking and drug smuggling, and emphasized the importance of continuous training and education for police forces. They also explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in the area of cybercrime, where Colombia brings extensive expertise.
The discussion also covered the topic of migration, with both sides expressing the need to continue finding humane and legal solutions to support migrants in the region.
A notable announcement from the Colombian Embassy was the upcoming cybersecurity training course to be held in Curaçao from August 25 to 29, 2025. A Colombian expert will lead the training. Minister Hato accepted the invitation to attend and will ensure that additional officials from the Ministry of Justice also participate in the course.
The topic of human trafficking prevention was also on the agenda. Minister Hato presented information on Curaçao’s PATH unit, which is dedicated to detecting and dismantling human trafficking networks.
Finally, the Minister raised the possibility of enabling Curaçaoan firefighters to receive training in Colombia, particularly in handling electric vehicles, solar panel-related incidents, disaster response, and environmental emergencies. These efforts aim to boost the operational capacity of Curaçao’s Fire Department in critical situations.
This working visit marks another step forward in the deepening of judicial and security cooperation between Curaçao and Colombia, contributing to a safer and more resilient Caribbean region.
