WILLEMSTAD - Justice Minister Shalten Hato has confirmed that Cpost will not place ballots in "community boxes" but will distribute them door-to-door. During the parliamentary meeting on Thursday, Hato emphasized the importance of having a mailbox at residents' homes to ensure they receive their ballots.
This initiative is part of the preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections on March 21.
The minister explained that the electoral council will launch an awareness campaign to inform voters about when the ballots will be sent out. This campaign will remind people to install mailboxes so they can receive their ballots in a timely manner.
Cpost will work with a private organization to distribute the ballots throughout Curaçao, including resorts. In 2021, the cost for this distribution was 209,802 guilders, and a budget of 226,600 guilders is allocated for 2025.
Hato also provided insights into the number of ballots that were not received in previous years, highlighting that the number of homes without mailboxes has increased. This change has contributed to a discrepancy in the number of ballots received between 2021 and 2017.
