WILLEMSTAD - The theft of 600 kilos of cocaine from the depot at the Rio Canario police station is a complex matter in the sense that it takes a lot to just enter the police station to steal drugs.
It is an investigation with the necessary complications. Minister Quincy Girigorie said this in response to a question about the status of the investigation. The Minister of Justice was unable to comment on the matter because the Public Prosecution Service has chosen not to go public with information about the case.
The Justice Minister indicated that he had ongoing discussions with Attorney General (AG) Roger Bos about the major drug robbery.
“What I can say is that the investigation is ongoing and that after the last conversation with the AG, I am confident that the case will be solved. As quickly as possible; I don't want to mention a date, but that is certainly my wish.”
On October 14, 2018, unknown perpetrators entered the police station in Rio Canario and stole 600 kilos of confiscated cocaine. The suspects managed to force two large metal doors for this. The Public Prosecutor immediately initiated an investigation, in which a burned-out truck - which is suspected to have been used in the burglary - was found and seized that same day.
A report has been drawn up since then, but much remains to this day to its content. The minister "could not answer at all" whether police officers are involved.
