WILLEMSTAD - The court will rule in the ENNIA case. The conversation between representatives of the Central Bank and shareholder Hushang Ansary came to nothing on Friday. The court had hoped that the parties would come to an agreement.
Ansary and some former directors of the insurer have been sentenced to pay more than 1 billion guilders for mismanagement. According to the Central Bank, that money is needed to keep ENNIA financially afloat. In this way, the regulator wants to avoid having to cut future pension benefits.
The Iranian American billionaire's earlier offer to proceed with payment appears to be off the table.
