Judge: Bank under supervision does not have to meet its payment obligations

WILLEMSTAD - A striking ruling in summary proceedings by government accountant SOAB against the embattled Girobank. According to the court, a bank that is under the guardianship of the Central Bank does not have to meet its payment obligations.

None of the account holders knew this provision in 2013, when the Girobank came under stricter supervision. "Business as usual" has always been communicated by both the Giro Bank and the Central Bank.

Government accountant SOAB wants to have its money, about two million guilders available to pay the salaries.
