WILLEMSTAD – J&M Moderno Egg Farm has strongly denied allegations from local residents that chicken carcasses are being dumped in the Dam Pretu area. The company’s management clarified that the operation at the site involves the processing of chicken manure, which is dried and mixed with soil before being distributed to farmers for use on their plantations. The company has labeled these accusations from nearby residents as incorrect and misleading.
The manure, which is produced daily by 30,000 laying hens, is spread out at a temporary location in Dam Pretu to dry and is then processed into agricultural fertilizer. This fertilizer is provided free of charge to local farmers. Moderno emphasized that chicken carcasses are removed by a specialized company and are sent to Malpais, not disposed of at Dam Pretu.
The farm’s management expressed understanding of the concerns raised by the residents and apologized for any inconvenience caused. To improve the situation, the company has ordered special processing machinery, which will be installed later this year at their main facility in Sun Valley. The Dam Pretu site, they clarified, is a temporary location used solely for manure processing.
In response, local residents have given the government an ultimatum until April 1 to intervene. They are demanding a complete halt to what they describe as the dumping of manure and carcasses. If the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature does not take action, they are considering legal steps.
