WILLEMSTAD - With great pride, Michèle Russel-Capriles, Chairman of the Jewish Cultural Historical Museum in Curaçao, announces the opening of a new wing. The expansion, set to take place next year, will accommodate three major permanent exhibitions dedicated to resistance hero George Maduro, Anne Frank, and Curaçao during World War II.
The announcement came last Saturday, just before the unveiling of a memorial plaque at George Maduro's birthplace on Scharlooweg 55, which now serves as the seat of the Dutch Representation.

The exhibition on George Maduro will highlight his heroic acts during the war, his life, and his Jewish background in Scharloo. The aim is to pay tribute to his legacy and pass on his story to future generations. The museum hopes that this exhibition will serve as an inspiration, emphasizing the value of diversity and courage.
The memorial plaque at George's birthplace serves as a lasting symbol of appreciation and respect for this local hero, whose heroic deeds are an integral part of Curaçao's history.
A few weeks
In the current section of the museum, there is still a large painting of George Maduro and the battle for Dorrepaal. In the same space, a continuous film about him is played, and you can see the Order of William. Impressive portraits of family members look on.
As the George Maduro room moves to the new wing, the public still has a few weeks to see the room in its original glory. After that, new exhibitions will be introduced, focusing on the social, economic, and cultural life of Jews in Curaçao.
