WILLEMSTAD - By means of a press release, Jetair Caribbean informed its passengers that they have made the decision to suspend their flights to the Dominican Republic, Las Americas airport as per March 16, 2023.
After Jetair Caribbean has operated this route for two years, and based on their analysis of this route they have come to the following conclusion:
1. There is limited demand and excessive supply on the route CUR-SDQ-CUR
2. The visa requirements and the limited number of visas approved for Dominican citizens is a limiting factor for Tourism.
3. The extreme cost/taxes for the use of the Las Americas airport.
4. The extreme fuel prices in the Dominican Republic.
5. The seasonality of the route.
The airline wants to reiterate that the Pandemic has changed the industry tremendously and certain routes need to be revisited regularly to make sure that the airline offers a product that the passengers want and need.
Jetair also states that this suspension does not mean that they have given up on the Dominican Republic. The airline will use this time of suspension to look into new possibilities in relation to the Dominican Republic.
Passengers who have already booked with the airline for flights after March 9, 2023 will be contacted by Jetair for alternate travel arrangements.
