WILLEMSTAD – JCI IOBA Curaçao has launched a new awareness campaign this month aimed at encouraging employers to give former prisoners a second chance in the workforce.
The initiative is part of the renewed Curaçao Safe 2025 project, which seeks to change the public discourse around the reintegration of ex-inmates. With the motto "Creating a culture where second chances are just the beginning," the campaign promotes a more positive and inclusive view of individuals with a criminal past.

JCI IOBA Curaçao is the local branch of Junior Chamber International, a global network of young professionals. Through leadership programs, training, and social projects, the organization supports personal and professional development for youth and young adults on the island.
Powerful Visual Storytelling
At the heart of the campaign are compelling visual media productions. A video series will feature Curaçaoan employers responding to the thought-provoking question: "Would you hire a former inmate?"
Additionally, a storytelling segment will showcase real-life testimonies from ex-prisoners, employers, and justice officials. These narratives aim to spotlight both the struggles and triumphs of reintegration.
“We want to confront society with the impact of excluding ex-offenders, many of whom are left with few or no job opportunities,” said project director Athena Sulvaran. “At the same time, we hope to inspire change through stories of hope, personal growth, and inclusion.”
Media Collaboration
The campaign is produced in collaboration with Kontentu Media, which is offering its studio and creative expertise free of charge. The media company said it hopes to contribute to a safer, fairer, and more humane Curaçao.
The project is led by a dedicated team of young volunteers, including:
Athena Sulvaran (Project Director)
Adjutha Lambertina (Marketing)
Safira Kramers (Logistics)
Gyadisha Sulvaran, CEO of Kontentu Media and campaign partner
With this campaign, JCI IOBA Curaçao not only highlights the barriers faced by ex-prisoners, but also challenges local businesses and the broader community to take part in building a more inclusive and secure society.
