Javier Silvania displeased with union's gift voucher request

Local | By Correspondent December 7, 2023

WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Finance Javier Silvania has expressed strong criticism of the request made by the ABVO union. The union requested that all government employees who do not attend the annual government Christmas dinner be given a gift voucher of two hundred guilders.

Through his Facebook page, the Minister of Finance made a series of accusations. He claimed that the union remained silent on the scrapping of vacation pay, salary increments, and Christmas celebrations, but now criticizes as the Pisas government tries to restore lost benefits.

In the eyes of Silvania, the union's request undermines the government's efforts to stabilize the financial situation, which has deteriorated due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated economic crisis.

According to the minister, ABVO's request is at odds with reality, as the union has not always openly protested against similar measures by the government in the past. On the other hand, ABVO claims that the minister's statements do not align with the truth and considers them unfounded.
