WILLEMSTAD - Jandino Asporaat is set to hold a crucial meeting with Curaçao's Prime Minister, Gilmar Pisas, on Monday to address the significant damage inflicted upon his nature park by recent severe weather conditions. The incident, which occurred at Hofi Mango in Curaçao, resulted in severe flooding, causing multiple dams to rupture and floodwaters to inundate the park's grounds.
Expressing urgency in addressing the situation, Jandino Asporaat emphasized the necessity for "a solid plan of action" aimed at restoring the damaged dams and rehabilitating the affected areas. Speaking to NPO Radio 1, the comedian recounted the perilous circumstances faced by the park's caretaker and their family, who had to be rescued by park staff as external emergency services failed to respond promptly. "It was too dangerous," Asporaat stated.
While refraining from assigning blame, Asporaat underscored the imperative for proactive measures. "We have been advocating for years for robust infrastructure in water management, drawing from knowledge both locally and from the Netherlands. However, despite discussions, tangible progress remains elusive," he asserted. "Now is not the time for accusations but rather for assuming responsibility."
In anticipation of the meeting, Kenneth Asporaat, Jandino's brother and park manager, announced his brother's imminent arrival in Curaçao to engage with government officials and strategize the park's restoration efforts. "Everything has just been wiped away," Jandino lamented previously. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, although the extent of the damage is profound, as highlighted by Asporaat. "But this is so bad, it's just all gone."
