Investigation into possible plagiarism of new Curaçao emblem almost completed

WILLEMSTAD - The investigation into possible plagiarism by the winner of the new Curaçao emblem will be completed in April.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture & Sport, Sithree van Heydoorn received an update from the Government Accountants Bureau (SOAB) last week. At the end of March, a draft will be published for both sides and the final report will be published at the end of April, the minister indicated.

Last year, the cabinet organized a competition in which people could submit designs for a new emblem for the island. The winner was accused of plagiarism on Facebook. Her design was compared to images from Shuttersstock. The conclusion that was drawn from that was that she would not have created it herself.

Due to the commotion surrounding the emblem, the minister decided at the time to investigate. The winner stated that she has not committed plagiarism and is familiar with copyright laws.
