WILLEMSTAD – A large-scale and confidential investigation into human trafficking is underway in Curaçao, with several high-ranking police officers possibly involved. The information surfaced during a recent operation, where multiple women without residence permits were arrested at a bar.
According to sources within the investigation, one of the involved officers is said to play a leading role in the organization that brings women to the island under false pretenses. Once they arrive, the victims are reportedly forced to work as bar staff and are later detained and deported when their presence is no longer desired.
The case came to light after one of the arrested women provided incriminating statements regarding the involvement of police officers.
According to sources within the police, one of the suspected officers has had previous legal issues. The investigation is still in a confidential phase to carefully prepare further steps. Arrests have not been ruled out.
The authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the case.
