Local | By Press release September 20, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning, in collaboration with the Willemstad Parking Management Foundation, has announced that paid parking will be reintroduced in the downtown area of Willemstad, both in Punda and Otrobanda. The fee will remain the same at 1 guilder per hour, with an additional 50 cents for every extra half hour. Starting from October 15, 2024, parking meters will be installed at strategic locations to optimize parking management and improve accessibility to the city center for visitors.

Preparation

Currently, parking meters are being installed in Punda and Otrobanda in preparation for the introduction of paid parking. This work will be completed by October 15, ensuring the new system is operational on time. Visitors to the city center will be able to use the parking meters directly on the day of the introduction to pay for parking time.

Benefits for Visitors to the City Center

Paid parking offers several benefits for visitors to the city center:

Improved Availability of Parking Spaces: With more efficient parking management, it is expected that there will be sufficient parking spaces for visitors.

Shorter Distance to Shops and Attractions: The parking meters are strategically installed to make it easy for visitors to park and have direct access to the shopping areas and attractions.

Time-Saving: Visitors will be able to find parking easily and pay quickly, contributing to a more pleasant shopping experience.

Clear information will be provided regarding the use of parking meters, fees, and parking regulations, ensuring that everyone is well-informed about how and where to pay. A mobile app for payment will also be introduced.

Looking Ahead

The Ministry of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning continues to work towards a more organized and comfortable city center. We are confident that this new system will not only improve traffic flow but also enhance the overall experience for visitors to our beautiful city center.
