Local | By Correspondent November 14, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (Ipko), initially scheduled for January 2025 in Aruba, has been postponed to June 2025 and will take place in The Hague. The rescheduling is due to the upcoming elections in both Aruba and Curaçao, which are set to occur around the original date of the meeting.

The decision to delay Ipko was made by the Ipko presidium, consisting of the chairs of the committees for Kingdom Relations in the four countries, along with the three Caribbean Parliament Speakers and their clerks.

Ipko is a biannual meeting between representatives from Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten, and the Netherlands. The discussions focus on shared challenges within the Kingdom. Key topics on the agenda include addressing the democratic deficit in the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom and establishing a Caribbean social security system. Additionally, a conference on democratic reform within the Kingdom is expected to take place by the end of 2025.
