International Cooperation Works, But Feedback Gaps Remain

| By Correspondent March 2, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao cooperates extensively with international partners in financial crime investigations, but weaknesses in feedback and data tracking limit effectiveness, according to the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF).

Between 2019 and 2023, Curaçao handled hundreds of mutual legal assistance requests, including high-profile joint investigations. However, authorities lack systematic feedback mechanisms to assess outcomes and improve response times.

The CFATF highlights the need for better statistics on international cooperation, particularly in asset recovery and extradition cases. Improved coordination would help Curaçao align its international efforts more closely with its highest-risk crime areas.

Strengthening these mechanisms is seen as essential given Curaçao’s role in regional and cross-border financial flows.
