Local | By Correspondent November 19, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - CultuurKameleon and the Children’s Museum Curaçao will host a special event on Wednesday to mark International Children's Rights Day. Governor Lucille George-Wout is set to attend the celebration, which will take place at the Children’s Museum Curaçao, according to the organizers.

CultuurKameleon, an organization dedicated to fostering cultural engagement and education for children in Curaçao, is collaborating with the museum to raise awareness about the fundamental rights of children worldwide.

The event is designed for 60 children from grades six and seven, who will participate in various activities throughout the morning. Keursly Concincion, Curaçao’s Child Ombudsman, will deliver a speech emphasizing the importance of protecting and nurturing children.

"Children’s rights deserve our attention because they represent a vulnerable group that needs protection, care, and opportunities to grow up healthy and safe. Their well-being is crucial to the future of our society," stated the organizers.

The event will begin at 8:15 a.m. and conclude at 11:30 a.m., after which the children will return to school. At 9:00 a.m., the Troubadours will present an interactive musical performance titled Bon Dia, Goedemorgen. Following that, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., children can take part in workshops focused on rap, theater, voice, and art.

The primary goal of the event is to contribute to a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive. "This day offers a wonderful opportunity to reflect on children’s rights in an interactive way. We are honored to have Governor George-Wout open the event, helping to raise awareness of children’s rights on our island," said Saskia Luckmann-Meijer of CultuurKameleon.
