Insufficient detection equipment to combat drug trafficking

WILLEMSTAD - The government is not investing enough in detection equipment to detect drugs. This is according to the Law Enforcement Council in a recently published report.

A total of 1,600 kilos of cocaine was seized in 2018 and 2019. That could have been much more because the volume of drug smuggling is much larger, according to the Council. Most drugs go to Europe via containers and ships.

Interceptions do not affect the price of drugs. According to the Council, investigative authorities should be given much more equipment to do their job properly.
