Local | By Correspondent March 19, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Last Friday evening, the police conducted checks at eight hospitality establishments. They examined whether everything was in order, but it turned out to be the case for only two of them. Six out of these eight businesses did not have a customs permit. This was announced by the police this afternoon. The inspections were carried out by the police and personnel from the Special Tasks Unit, together with the Ministry of Economic Development and Customs. Inspections were conducted in the neighborhoods of Santa Maria, Schottegatweg, and Veeris.

During these inspections, nine individuals were also arrested, of whom it was later revealed that two of them had the correct documentation. Ultimately, four men and three women without residence permits were taken into custody.

The seven individuals were brought before an assistant public prosecutor. Efforts are now underway to deport them to their countries of origin. The police have stated that the inspections will continue.
