Increasing uncertainty for travelers following Jetair bankruptcy

WILLEMSTAD - Passengers of Jetair remain in uncertainty due to the bankruptcy of the airline. There is still no clarity regarding a possible restart. Since the news of the bankruptcy, various developments have taken place, but the future of Jetair remains unclear.

Stan van Liere, the administrator from HBN Law & Tax handling the case, has confirmed that intensive efforts are being made to find a solution for a potential restart. However, discussions with potential buyers and stakeholders, including the staff and the government, have not yet yielded concrete results.

Minister Charles Cooper of Traffic, Transportation, and Spatial Planning and Minister Ruisandro Cijntje (PNP) of Economic Development have stated that the government has not yet received a formal request for financial support for a possible reopening or restart of Jetair. Cooper emphasized that the government will not allocate financial resources to airlines and will not be directly involved in their operations.

Cijntje is focused on finding new parties that might be interested in a takeover, though it is unclear what this has yielded.

The bankruptcy of Jetair also has practical consequences, such as the loss of 400 seats per week on the route between Sint Maarten and Curaçao, affecting the connectivity between the islands. Winair had plans to structurally expand their flight offerings but faced resistance from the Curaçao government.

The coming days are said to be crucial for Jetair, according to insiders.
