Incest case 8-year-old girl in Curaçao postponed, uncle needs time for a good defense

Local | By Correspondent February 23, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The uncle who allegedly abused his 8-year-old niece has been granted a postponement by the judge because he needs more time to prepare his defense.

The man allegedly seduced the girl with words and forced her to perform sexual acts. He is also accused of showing the girl pornographic photos and videos in the period from March 2020 to November 11, 2022 and filming her with his phone. He also photographed her inappropriately and made videos of her. He also allegedly masturbated in front of her.

Uldrick Dickens, who is defending the uncle, only received the subpoena and file just before trial and asked for an extension to prepare a proper defense.

The girl's mother submitted a request to attend the case in another room via videoconference so that she would not have to be in the same room as her brother. Yesterday, the uncle asked permission to speak to his other brother, who was in court, but he refused.

In response to this, the public prosecutor said that the Public Prosecution Service can use a mediator so that the parties can sit down and talk. Whether that will happen is not clear.

The case has been postponed to Monday, March 29.
