Improved street lighting coming soon to neighborhoods

WILLEMSTAD - Minister Charles Cooper, responsible for public works, recently held a meeting with the utility company Aqualectra to discuss the issue of street lighting in neighborhoods. The primary objective of the meeting was to establish concrete agreements aimed at enhancing neighborhood lighting, with a particular focus on areas currently lacking adequate street lighting. The importance of street lighting in enhancing neighborhood safety during nighttime hours was a central topic of discussion. 

 

Key points discussed during the meeting included: 

Transfer of Streetlights: The streetlights, which are government property, are set to be transferred to Aqualectra. 

Increased Streetlight Inventory: Aqualectra is committed to ensuring an ample supply of streetlights to initiate improved illumination in additional neighborhoods over the next year. 

Planning by VVRP: The Ministry of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning (VVRP) will develop a comprehensive plan outlining the specific neighborhoods and areas that will receive attention and the sequence in which they will be addressed. 

Data Sharing: VVRP will receive pertinent information from Aqualectra concerning the current quantity of streetlights in each neighborhood. 

 

 

Documentation and Maintenance: Aqualectra will draft a concept for the transfer documentation and a maintenance agreement for the streetlights. 

 

Installation Coordination: Aqualectra will oversee the execution of installation work in accordance with the approved planning. 

 

The efforts outlined in this meeting are expected to significantly enhance neighborhood lighting, contributing to the safety and well-being of local residents during the evening hours.
