Improved employment terms for dock workers through new collective labor agreement

Local | By Correspondent November 8, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - After months of mediation, dock workers at Damen Shiprepair Curaçao (DSCu) have finally reached a new collective labor agreement. The PWFC labor union and DSCu have come to an agreement that results in better employment conditions for Damen Shiprepair employees.

The signing of the agreement took place on Tuesday evening. The new collective labor agreement is valid for the next three years. According to the dockyard company, this also provides a degree of job security for the shipyard, as the working conditions for employees are improved, which allows for future considerations regarding existing and new clients.

Alfeo Profas, the State Mediator who led the discussions among all involved parties, acknowledges that it took a bit more time to reach an agreement than initially anticipated. The main reason for this was the difficulty in getting everyone together at the same time. Profas is pleased that they ultimately succeeded, and the result is satisfactory.
