WILLEMSTAD - As part of his first official visit to Curaçao, H.E. President Chandrikapersad Santokhi of the Republic of Suriname, together with H.E. Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas of Curaçao, paid a working visit today to the Ministry of Economic Development of Curaçao.
During this meeting, the importance of bilateral trade relations between Curaçao and Suriname was emphasized, and a significant step was taken towards strengthening economic cooperation. This was achieved through the signing of a framework agreement for a Partial Scope Trade Agreement between the two countries. The agreement was signed by H.E. Albert Ramdin, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Economic Relations of Suriname, and H.E. Charles Cooper, Minister of Economic Development of Curaçao, in the presence of the President of Suriname and the Prime Minister of Curaçao.
After the signing, a book presentation took place, featuring two works: "Faya Lobi" by Mrs. Ange Jessurun and "Green Oil" by Mr. Stijn Janssen. These books reflect the growing cultural and economic ties between Curaçao and Suriname. The book "Green Oil" is particularly relevant, as oil is expected to play an increasingly significant role in the economic relations between the two countries.
H.E. Prime Minister Pisas concluded the event with a closing statement, thanking the President of Suriname for his visit and emphasizing that this agreement and the strengthened cooperation will lay the foundation for future prosperity for both Curaçao and Suriname.
