Hygiene emerges as major issue in Curaçao's hospitality sector

Local | By Correspondent October 10, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Alarming reports on the state of hygiene in Curaçao's hospitality industry have surfaced following extensive inspections carried out by the Economic Development Inspection team.

Over the course of just one and a half weeks, the Inspection Team meticulously examined 41 establishments, and the results were startling. A total of 25 establishments had to be shut down due to serious hygiene violations, while three others received formal warnings.

Minister Cornelis expressed deep concern over these findings, emphasizing that the problem is not limited to Asian restaurants but extends to local kitchens as well.

In response to this hygiene crisis, the ministry has issued a stern warning, indicating that repeat offenders could potentially face license revocation after a third violation.
