WILLEMSTAD – A majority of respondents in a Human Right Defence (HRDC) study believe undocumented migrants from Venezuela, Haiti, Jamaica and other Caribbean countries experience discrimination on Curaçao.
According to the questionnaire results, 64 percent agreed that Venezuelan migrants face discrimination, while 77 percent said migrants from Haiti, Jamaica and other Caribbean islands experience discrimination.
By comparison, only 11 percent believed migrants from the United States and Canada experience discrimination.
The findings suggest that perceptions of migrants differ strongly depending on nationality and regional background.
