Households reconnected to water and electricity with government support

Local | By Correspondent November 1, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Households being reconnected to water and electricity through financial support from the government and Aqualectra, along with their own contributions, will be able to manage their water usage through a prepaid system known as “pagatinu” specifically designed for water services, Aqualectra announced.

With this new system, customers will have full control over their consumption of both water and electricity. Aqualectra is implementing the project in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development, Labor, and Welfare (SOAW).

This initiative targets households with payment arrears, with the government covering 50 percent of the outstanding debts. Aqualectra contributes an additional 25 percent, while customers are required to repay the remaining amount through a payment plan. The total arrears have reached 12 million guilders.
