Hospitality Sector Will Not Blindly Follow CTB’s Carrying Capacity Study

WILLEMSTAD – The hospitality sector in Curaçao will not blindly adopt the findings of the carrying capacity study conducted by the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB). That is the view of Anuschka Cova, CEO of the Curaçao Hospitality & Tourism Association (CHATA).

According to Cova, the study must clarify how far the island can sustainably grow as a tourist destination—not only in terms of roads but also in relation to critical infrastructure such as the airport and sewage system. “This is about long-term development,” she stressed.

CHATA, along with other stakeholders, provided input for the study with a strong focus on sustainable growth that respects the local living environment. “When we work together, it means our perspectives are included. That’s something we can support, because then we carry it together. That is true public-private partnership,” Cova said.

Responding to criticism of large-scale hotel expansions, CHATA emphasized the need to weigh disadvantages against benefits such as job creation and economic growth. “Finding balance and giving back to the community is essential,” Cova concluded.
