WILLEMSTAD - Maria Liberia-Peters received an honorary doctorate from the University of Curaçao yesterday. The former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles received the honorary doctorate as a tribute to her exceptional leadership.
Her management skills and exceptional achievements in the fields of politics and public administration were also praised. She presided over the most impactful and difficult business negotiations in the history of Curaçao. When Shell left Curaçao in 1985, she ensured that the oil refinery was taken over by the Venezuelan company PdVSA. The refinery provided employment in Curaçao.
