WILLEMSTAD - For the first time in history, an artist has won both the Tumba and Kantadó Mayó titles in the same year: congratulations to Sharrel Adjatay Denisia for this unprecedented achievement in 2024. This unique success has sparked many reactions, considering it involves the art of interpretation and understanding. Sharrel Adjatay Denisia is the first in history to have the honor of claiming both titles in one year.
Reinier Lijfrock, who previously won three different titles, including both the Tumba and Rei di Kalipso in 2006 and later the Kantadó Mayó in 2008, then securing the Calypsoca king title again in 2010, illustrates the value of these art forms. But it is Adjatay who is now making history by winning both the Tumba and Kantadó Mayó in the same year.
The 'Seú,' like the Tumba Festival, has its own singing competition, where the winner receives the title 'Kantadó Mayó,' or 'the greatest singer.' This year, there were 62 entries for the Kantadó Mayó competition, accompanied by nineteen music groups on the dates of March 5, 6, and 7. Similar to last year, the competition took place at the tennis courts of Mundu Nobo.
