WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s Parliament marked a historic moment this weekend with the official installation of its newly elected members and the appointment of new parliamentary leadership, following the general elections held on March 21, 2025.
Charetti America, now the former President of Parliament, was formally sworn in again as a Member of Parliament on Saturday, during a ceremony attended by the Governor of Curaçao. America was among the 21 elected representatives who will serve in the legislative body for the upcoming term.
Shortly after the installation, America presided over the first official session of the new Parliament. During this meeting, a significant leadership transition took place as Fergino Brownbill was elected as the new President of Parliament. At just 29 years old, Brownbill makes history as the youngest person ever to assume the role in Curaçao.
In her remarks during the handover, America described the session as “a moment of dignity and democratic continuity,” offering her warm congratulations to Brownbill as he begins his tenure.
The Parliament also appointed Ramon Yung as Vice-President, who will support the new President in steering the legislative agenda.
On the occasion, America also extended best wishes to all mothers in Curaçao in recognition of Mother’s Day, which was celebrated on Sunday.
As Curaçao enters the next phase of government formation, with a new Cabinet of Ministers to be established, Charetti America expressed her continued dedication to public service. “With gratitude and renewed commitment, I stand ready to serve and contribute to the stability, progress, and prosperity of our beloved Curaçao,” she stated.
The new Parliament is expected to begin consultations and coalition talks in the coming days as part of forming the next government.
