Historic moment: MPs can intervene from today

Local | By Correspondent March 13, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Today is the first debate in Parliament in which members of parliament can and may interrupt the speaker. This amendment to the Rules of Procedure should generate more debate, in which Members of Parliament can measure each other and the government.

There will also be a question hour, as is customary in the House of Representatives. The way it happens is slightly different than in The Hague. Simply placing an interruption is not possible, it must be requested from the President of Parliament using a device. A maximum of three interruptions are allowed per Member of Parliament.

The members of parliament have now been trained in the system, the ministers have not, they receive an explanation when they appear in parliament.

President Charetti America-Francisca says it is a historic moment today. Parliament has been talking about the possibility of interfering for years, now it is a fact.

Question time is on Thursdays every two weeks and is based on written questions. The answer is oral.
