WILLEMSTAD - One of the rooms at Huize Welgelegen Habaai, managed by Fundashon Bírgen di Rosario, was flooded on Monday. The flooding was caused by heavy rainfall that unexpectedly hit the island.
According to the management of the care facility, the extreme rainfall was unforeseen and led to leaks in the historic building, despite preventive measures being in place. "Immediately after the flooding, the safety of the residents and staff was ensured," said Indra Rossen-Lucasius, manager at Bírgen di Rosario.
The leak caused water damage in several parts of the monumental building, including a bathroom and staff quarters, the newspaper reports. Although residents and staff were in another area at the time, one person managed to capture a video of the incident. The footage shows water pouring into the building at high speed, even through the light fixtures.
Once the safety of the residents and staff was secured, the facility team began cleaning and restoring the affected areas. The rooms have now been fully cleaned and are back in use.
