Local | By Correspondent February 27, 2025

WILLEMSTADOn Wednesday, February 12, Aqualectra, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development, Labor, and Welfare (SOAW), announced a temporary extension of the Pasku di Bida project.

Launched as a pilot initiative in October 2024, Pasku di Bida initially aimed to assist around 1,000 Aqualectra customers who had accumulated high debts and had their water services disconnected for more than 30 days.

In Phase 2 of the project, customers who had already been identified in the first phase were still eligible to apply. However, the program was expanded to reach even more people in need. The eligibility criteria were broadened to include individuals who:

Have a monthly income below ANG 2,500

Owe more than ANG 5,000 to Aqualectra

Have an active contract with Aqualectra

Application and Next Steps

The application period for Phase 2 officially closed on Saturday, February 22, at 11:59 PM, with a total of 860 people applying.

On the final application day, Aqualectra’s Customer Service Center at RIF opened its doors to provide additional assistance to those struggling with the registration process. A total of 83 clients visited the center that day for support.

Now that the application period has closed, Aqualectra and SOAW will individually evaluate each request, with all applicants receiving a response by March 15 at the latest. Based on the provided information, it will be determined whether they qualify for Phase 2 of the Pasku di Bida program.

Qualified customers will be given an appointment to submit any necessary documents and sign an agreement to reconnect their water and electricity services. The reconnections will be managed through a smart prepaid system, allowing users to add credit and control their utility usage more effectively, preventing them from falling back into debt.
