Heirs receive court approval to sell historic building on Penstraat

Local | By Correspondent October 25, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The heirs of a historic property located at Penstraat 15, 17, 19A, and 19B have received court approval to sell the building. The property, situated in the Nieuw Nederlands district of Curaçao, suffered fire damage in both 2021 and 2023.

The three heirs, residing in Miami, France, and Curaçao, petitioned the court for permission to sell the property. They aim to divide the proceeds equitably under the supervision of a notary, in accordance with their inheritance rights.

The building originally belonged to an individual who passed away in 1956, with a later heir passing away in 2011. As the estate had remained unsettled, the current heirs now have approval to proceed with the sale.

The government had the opportunity to object but did not appear in court. The judge has ruled that the sale, priced at 700,000 guilders, can proceed, with the funds to be divided among the heirs by a notary.
