Health Minister calls for investigation into import of Gaf Plus and Ultra Dol

Local | By Correspondent August 23, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Health Minister Javier Silvania expressed his concerns about the painkillers Gaf Plus and Ultra Dol in a letter to Health Inspector Sirving Keli on Thursday. Despite a sales ban, these painkillers are still being imported and are available in pharmacies.

Laboratory tests have revealed that Gaf Plus contains diclofenac, which the minister deems a serious violation of health regulations. Diclofenac, a potent anti-inflammatory drug, can have severe side effects and should only be used under medical supervision.

The minister demands clarity on the issue by August 26 and expects a full investigation report from the inspection within two weeks. "This report should provide a thorough analysis of the circumstances leading to this situation, the steps already taken, and the measures still to be implemented," Silvania stated in his letter.

Furthermore, Silvania is calling for immediate action to halt the sale and distribution of these products and is requesting cooperation with other agencies, such as Customs, to remove these dangerous products from the market entirely.
