WILLEMSTAD - The harvest festival Seú has been canceled. Traditionally, it is celebrated on Easter Monday. That falls on April 13 this year.
The measure was taken in response to the global corona crisis. The government is talking about postponement, but a new date has not yet been set.
The word Seú is originally from West Africa and means "heaven". Seú is based on the belief that everyone is connected and that all people have a relationship with Mother Nature.
Seú is primarily a celebration of and respect for the spirits that protect the earth. Working together, helping each other, being thankful and united are the core values during Seú.
The government is in consultation with the groups to determine a new date as soon as possible.
