Great pressure on health care by undocumented patients

WILLEMSTAD - The more undocumented migrants come to Curaçao, the greater the pressure is on existing health care on the island. That is according to Health Inspector Sirving Keli.

0.5 percent of the patients who end up in Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) have no valid papers required by Curaçao law: the hospital, therefore, does not receive money for their treatment. But even without money, these patients need to receive treatment.

However, according to Keli, patients with chronic diseases are a bigger problem: especially if the person needs medication which in most cases are extremely expensive.
