Grand Freedom Meal on May 5: Coming Together for Peace, Freedom, and Connection

Local | By Press release April 23, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – On Monday, May 5, 2025, the Fleur de Marie Freedom Festival invites everyone not only to celebrate music and culture, but also to come together at the table—to reflect and talk about what peace, freedom, and connection mean in today’s world.

At 6:00 PM, the Grand Freedom Meal will take place on the festival grounds at Parke Leyba: a shared moment of gathering, music, and meaningful dialogue. In collaboration with the National Committee for May 4 and 5, the iconic Freedom Soup will be served—a dish that symbolizes solidarity and togetherness and is shared across the Kingdom on May 5.

At Fleur de Marie, 250 guests will sit down together to eat, listen, and discuss topics such as democracy, human rights, and the meaning of freedom in our society.

Live Music During Dinner

The Grand Freedom Meal will be accompanied by a special performance by Tamara Nivillac and Kris Berry—two renowned Curaçaoan artists from the diaspora. Together with local musicians, they will deliver a concert full of emotion, pride, and shared heritage. The festival aims to shine a spotlight on Curaçaoan talent that is now making waves around the world.

Admission & Ticket Info

Admission to the Grand Freedom Meal is free, but a ticket is required. Tickets can be collected on Wednesday, May 1 between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM at the festival grounds in Parke Leyba, Scharloo. Be quick—seating is limited.

Freedom Stage: Music into the Night

After the communal dinner, the evening program kicks off on the Freedom Stage, featuring performances by Doble R Super Special Stars, Tania Kross, B’JAY, KEVV., and other local artists. All concerts will be performed live with accompaniment by musicians from the island. The evening program starts at 7:30 PM.

An entry wristband is required for the evening program as well, and can also be picked up on May 1 between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM at Parke Leyba.

A Sustainable Festival with Reusable Cups

This year, the Fleur de Marie Freedom Festival takes a big step toward sustainability. Instead of disposable plastic, the Festival Cup will be introduced: a reusable cup available for a one-time purchase of 1 token (2.50 XCG), which can be used throughout the event—and taken home as a lasting keepsake.

Celebrating Together = Building Together

The Fleur de Marie Freedom Festival and Grand Freedom Meal are made possible by the dedication of local partners, volunteers, and businesses who believe in the power of freedom, community, and culture. Together, we are building a society rooted in unity and brightness—ta sigui bria lus.
