WILLEMSTAD - Governor Lucille George-Wout focused in her Christmas speech on the cooperation of the Curaçao population. “Progress takes effort,” said Governor Lucille George-Wout during her Christmas speech.

“We are a small island with limited capacity. And yet we have to put our shoulders to the wheel and look for opportunities for cooperation,” says George-Wout. The Governor emphasizes that Curaçao's resilience will help in the search for what the people share with each other. "Even with the knowledge that we won't agree on a subject."

George-Wout thanks the Curaçaoan for keeping the island running, despite the various challenges that exist. In her speech, she reflected on the aftermath of the pandemic, the economic recovery, the consequences of the war in Ukraine and the consequences of climate change.

In addition, the Governor spoke about the upcoming commemoration year of the slavery past. “The Dutch government sees the apology as a first step towards increasing knowledge and awareness about the past. Fortunately, I also see the willingness on this side.”
